Two lines, one chemistry

Four cells: AA and AAA, each in standard eneloop and eneloop pro. Every pack below is the same cell in a different count.
Every eneloop cell here is nickel-metal hydride, sold charged and ready to use. The packs print two capacity figures: typical, what an average cell delivers, and minimum, the floor every cell meets. The difference between the lines is a trade. pro AA carries 2,600 mAh typical against 2,100, and in return Panasonic rates it for 500 recharges against 2,100 under the 2011 test standard.
If you are buying for one device, the device decides (the table on the home page matches lines to devices). If you are stocking a drawer for the whole house, standard cells are the default, with a pro set kept for the flash or the flashlight.
Every pack on this shelf is one of the packs in the eneloop lineup: the same cell in a different count, so the cheapest cell is the figure to compare.
eneloop batteries: questions
Can you mix eneloop and eneloop pro in one device?
A pro cell holds more charge than a standard one, so in a shared device the standard cell runs flat first while the pro still has charge left. One line per device, charged as a set, keeps the cells even.
Are eneloop batteries charged when you open the pack?
Yes. Panasonic sells them pre-charged, and the packs say the charge came from solar power at the factory. Top them up before a long trip, since a pack may have sat on a shelf for months.
How long will your eneloop batteries keep their charge in a drawer?
Panasonic rates standard eneloop to keep 70% of its charge after 10 years in storage and pro to keep 85% after one year, both at 20 °C. Heat speeds the loss.
